After having used the riot face shield for a few weeks, I've decided that I'd rather have something lighter for much of the time when I feel the risk is low, or minimal.....and, I've just completed check-out at Amazon for the Bionic face shield.

I feel the Bionic provides better protection than a standard face shield, and it will be my "go-to" at the lathe for most of my turning. I suspect it will be nearly as light as a standard face shield, but the chin guard will add a small amount of weight.

The riot face shield, provides much more face protection than the Bionic, so I'll use that when I feel the risk is greater than normal. As with most things, you have to give something to get something......and, in this case, there is increased face protection, but it's heavier.....probably double, or triple the weight of a standard face shield. Not so much heavier that it won't be used, but enough to want something lighter for the other times when risk is low.

The modified fielders face guard is better protection than anything else, and I'll be using it underneath either the Bionic, or the riot shield when I feel the risk factor is significant. I'll definitely be using this combo at times.

My Resp-o-rator works well under the riot face shield and the standard face shield, but not the fielder's mask. I expect it will work with the Bionic face shield, as well.......

It's worth mentioning to those who don't know, that the Bionic shield is offered in a few different configurations (and prices), so make sure you know which item you are ordering.

The units I chose (model S8510) are configured with the hard coated, anti-fog visor.
The lower priced units (model S8500) come with the uncoated visor.

Complete details are on the Uvex web site

Hello Alan......

I ordered the S8510 with the anti-fog visor, and two of the S8550 non-coated replacement visors. My thought is to immediately put in one of the non-coated visors, and use that normally. I'll install the anti-fog coated visor on those rare occasions during the winter time when fogging up has been an issue with my regular face shield. I assume the frame and headband fits both visors.

Thanks

Odie for what is is worth. It seems like one side of the visor is hard coated and the other side is anti-fog coated and they aren't marked. I recently put a replacement shield in mine and I have noticed that it now has several starburst on it like a gravel makes when it hits a windshield. Also I noticed that it fogged up pretty easy but I attributed that to the warm moist weather we have here in the summer. So I think mine was installed wrong side out so yesterday I took it out and turned it around. I looked on the picture on Amazon and the model # is on the left hand side, mine was on the right. I used it today and it didn't fog up, it might just be the weather then again maybe not.

Thanks John and Fred.....

Fred....would, or should that number be on the left side from the driver's seat?.....or, looking from the outside? Guess I'll have to pay attention to that when I get mine......
