After having used the riot face shield for a few weeks, I've decided that I'd rather have something lighter for much of the time when I feel the risk is low, or minimal.....and, I've just completed check-out at Amazon for the Bionic face shield.
I feel the Bionic provides better protection than a standard face shield, and it will be my "go-to" at the lathe for most of my turning. I suspect it will be nearly as light as a standard face shield, but the chin guard will add a small amount of weight.
The riot face shield, provides much more face protection than the Bionic, so I'll use that when I feel the risk is greater than normal. As with most things, you have to give something to get something......and, in this case, there is increased face protection, but it's heavier.....probably double, or triple the weight of a standard face shield. Not so much heavier that it won't be used, but enough to want something lighter for the other times when risk is low.
The modified fielders face guard is better protection than anything else, and I'll be using it underneath either the Bionic, or the riot shield when I feel the risk factor is significant. I'll definitely be using this combo at times.
My Resp-o-rator works well under the riot face shield and the standard face shield, but not the fielder's mask. I expect it will work with the Bionic face shield, as well.......
