As president of the Maui Woodturners Association i made it a priority to become a 501(C) 3 non profit organization. I received a call a few days ago. A retired scientist wanted to donate a lathe. His late father bought it new in 1990, did 3 projects and sadly past away. One project was a set of salt and pepper shakers, that he still has and cherishes. The gentleman carried the lathe from South Carolina to San Diego, then to Hawaii. He never used it.... I picked up the lathe, all attachments, the manual, and about 30 tools, some nice Robert Sorby's, about 10 Craftsman, and some of my first tools, a Buck Brothers set!
With club member Wayne Omura picked up the lathe, cleaned it up a little, and cranked it up. Nice smooth lathe. Perfect for a third lathe for the club, for our hands on classes. We have Stuart Batty coming tin 2018, we are now all set for him!! The lathe looks like just came out of the factory... Simply amazing. I drafted my first thank you tax deduction letter, gave it to the gentleman and I will turn him a nice bowl for xmas.
I just wanted to share the good news. Aloha
