1460 Jarrah Burl (15)

Finished 12/05/17, Australian Jarrah burl, As was received was a square 11" x 11" x 3", 16% MC, total cost of materials was $159.95, roughed and not anchorsealed, took 11 months to stabilize, went from 2000 grams to 1905 grams during that period, finished size is 10 9/16" x 2 13/16", sanded to 600g plus 0000 steel wool, Watco Danish oil natural, Beall 3-step buffed. As some of you know, I had a great deal of difficulty with this piece, because there were many large cracks, bark inclusions, and voids to deal with. The final shape wasn't planned, but was more the result of eliminating as much of the voids, cracking, and weak bark inclusions as I could. The finished piece has thicker than usual walls, and were left thick, so as to maintain structural strength.....as well as keeping it safe to turn! (I was not sure it wouldn't come apart while turning.) -----odie-----
