Just want to share this really nice piece of maple. I found it at the end of an 8/4 maple board I was re-sawing. It has a bloodwood foot and lip.
Pete, I always marvel at the beauty of your work. Form and finish are, as always, stunning. That is a nice piece of wood. You sure did it justice!

By the way, can you tell me about the finish you used?

Mark,
Put on a coat of boiled linseed oil to bring out the figure. Then a coat of shellac as a sealer and six coats of General Finishes Wood Turners Finish. Its a water based urethane. Then wet sanded with micromesh.

Beautiful bowl, Pete. Your finish looks great. How is working with the water based finish? What are it's UV protecting abilites?
Marc
