This is a chestnut bowl. It is about 15cm across and has a wall thickness of about 1-2mm. It weighs virtually nothing. I have called it At the Mercy of Chance because of its thickness, during the final few passes chance was a very important factor.
I love turning thin work. The grain was great and I wanted to show it off. I like a simple line and admire the work of Bert Marsh. This is not a copy though It is very hard to find a unique shape that has never been done before I feel somewhere you are always copying/ utilising someone elses shapes. How does one develop if one doesn't occaisionally look to see what else is happening around you?
