Cherries and Cream Candy...Dish

Made of Salt Cedar Burl, with Pecan and Bloodwood for the stem and base. Measures 7"x4.5" and has a Tung Oil finish.

It seems like I'm the first to post a Salt Cedar piece. If you are unfamiliar this stuff is an invasive species, extremely hardy and resistant to eredacation efforts. An untreated stump and root system will still suck up water, and a live adult tree will suck up over 200 gallons a day. Salt Cedar is a four letter word in the desert. People have been amazed at how the wood looks. It is in my top three favorites, but it comes with a price. This bowl had to have an intermediate turning between the rough and finish stage because of movement. Cracking is expected just like with all waterhogs. Hopefully I'll have some of this stuff for sale within the next year.
It seems like every time I look at this piece my eyes go right to the skinny point in the stem, I don't think that was your plan with such a beautiful piece of wood for the bowl part.
