Verdigris wax is simply applied to the surface of a piece and left for a while. Then rub off the wax from the areas you want/high spots to reveal the underlying colour.
It has been used in interiors/buildings for hundreds of years to achieve faux metal effects on mouldings, picture frames etc.
It all depends what you want to achieve with it, so the best way if just to play around with different textures, base colours.
Apply a fine texture will mean more of the wax is held in the piece, then apply your desired base colour, then the wax, rub off from the high spots.
you can also use different colour waxes in the same way.
