Carrying on the theme

Hi all

it has been ages since I posted in the forum.

This piece I have just finished and is carrying on my interest in various Japanese philosophies/subject.

it is 160 mm dia x around 120 mm high. Sat on a burr oak base. Textured and aged with verdigris wax.

Comments welcome.

Hi all

Kurt, thank you very very much for your comment and for picking this piece for the turning of the week.

Ronald,

Verdigris wax is simply applied to the surface of a piece and left for a while. Then rub off the wax from the areas you want/high spots to reveal the underlying colour.

It has been used in interiors/buildings for hundreds of years to achieve faux metal effects on mouldings, picture frames etc.

It all depends what you want to achieve with it, so the best way if just to play around with different textures, base colours.

Apply a fine texture will mean more of the wax is held in the piece, then apply your desired base colour, then the wax, rub off from the high spots.

you can also use different colour waxes in the same way.

It really is as easy as that. If you check out here http://http://www.liberon.co.uk/colour-with-wax-and-dye/verdigris-wax,434,464.html?&args=Y29tcF9pZD0zMDQmYWN0aW9uPWZpY2hlUHJvZHVpdCZpZD0xODImfA%3D%3D it tells you how to do it. Not sure if you can get liberon where you are but they are much the same.

Mark,
Just to let you know, Ed Davidson actually changes the photo on the front page. Unfortunately, Ed's father is ill right now, so please bear with regarding the photo being posted. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Kurt

Thank you for letting me know. No worries. Ed's caring for his father is more important than my picture. I hope he gets well soon.

take care

Mark
