Platter from figured maple.
very nice

A very beautiful piece. Is there a black rim only on the inside rim, or is the outside rim black also?

Thanks for the comments, Charlie, Frank, Ronald, and Lou. Frank, there is a black border on the outer edge of the rim as well as on the inner edge. Too bad that a photo can't show the chatoyance in a piece of figured wood. The maple had beautiful figure and the dye exceeded my expectations. I received my inspiration for this piece from a demo by Jimmy Clewes at SWAT and also from his coloring technique shown in a couple of his DVDs.

The colored rim makes this piece particularly striking, very fine.
