This is a 16" x 11" sycamore bowl. It was a beautiful, perfectly clear piece of wood and a pleasure to carve. Its the largest bowl I've turned and the most detailed carving I've done on a piece. It turned 3/4" thick because the relief is 5/8" in some areas.
The natural sections are finished with oil and the the leaves are sprayed with an airbrush using acrylic paints. Finally I sprayed the entire piece with lacquer.
After three month of work I am very happy to work on some smaller pieces for a while.
Happy Ney Year everyone!
Jim
What a stunning idea. The depth of relief you achieved on this piece is remarkable. Congratulations. Beautifully done!

Beautiful Jim!
I really like how you colored the leaves.
Very nice.
