Vase with a Shawl

A thin layer of natural edged Maple Burl (0.030" thick) has been fit to a Bubinga vase with a thin layer of black epoxy (0.006" thick) between. The three layers are cut through with an ornamental lathe. The top insert is ebony.
I like it very much. I think the ornamentation is just right. Not too much, not too little.

A beautiful piece, and I agree with John: to me it seems just the right amount . . . of everything!

Thanks to all for the kind comments. Also, thank you Kurt for the honor of "turning of the week".

Excellent work Bill, particularly with the epoxy. That's no easy task gluing up a part like that and not getting the epoxy all over the bubinga!

Bill, your creativity just seems to have no end with OT work. Congrats on ToW selection, this is a wonderful piece!
