Pima Pattern

Indian basket design taken from a Pima basket. Kiln dried maple about 12.5x1.75. Colored with India Ink then finished with Danish oil, Krylon workable fixitive, satin lacquer and Krylon UV Matte finish.

Very nice. I really like this piece. Do you burn or color the grooves between the beads? Also, what brand of India ink pens do you use to get such fine detail?

Hi Bill,
I burn the groove valleys with a piece of formica about 3/4" wide and sanded down to about .015-.020 thickness. Got this tip from Harvey Meyer in a demo he did at the Tennessee Symposium in January. Tried several ways to do this and this technique seems to work the best. The ink is Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pens. Black and Sanguine pens have many nib choices. Super fine is used on all the edges of the color.
