I wanted to make a globe. The sandcarving seemed to be the way to do it. Trent Bosch was sandcarving geometric images on hollow forms when I assisted him at Arrowmont in 2010. I Moved toward realististic images using techniques the glass artists and artistic sign makers were using.
Another amazing piece of work.!
 
That is just cool Al. I hope I can catch a demo of yours on this. An article for American Woodworker would be great too.
 
Al, I meant to ask you how you achieved that photo? It's really nice the way it only shows the earth and the highlight is soft. Mine are harsh and you can actually see the light source in the reflections.
 
I let sherry take them.

We generally take them in the morning on west facing covered porch. We have a role of neutral grey paper for the background. A reflector makes the highlights and shadow.
