Dale, the wood is post oak. The "acorn" is dyed with undiluted TransTint (some dark color -- can't recall which one). The cap is unfinished except for the woodburning. I burned two sets of repetitive spiral patterns that curved in opposite directions. I did multi-axis turning for the petiole so that it curves and then made a dimple in the end where it would fasten to the stem. I textured the petiole to mimic how it would look in nature. My model for the acorn was a burr oak acorn. The acorn box is just large enough to hold a real burr oak acorn (minus the cap).
