Christmas ornaments

Making lots of different ornaments for our club to sell and my wife want's to decorate our tree with my ornaments so I'm trying to make a variety.
It's a sorby texturing tool the same as the ones on the ends. What I do it rotate it back and forth very very slightly off vertical. Sometimes it does this and sometimes it doesn't. Pretty unpredictable. I stick it into the wood and pivot the tool across the gap. As I pivot I rotate it not more than just a degree or so. Too much and it tears the wood instead of denting it.
