"October's Eve" AAW Fall Contest 2007

With a nontraditional finial I wanted to use nontypical materials for the box. I've had these banksia pods staring at me in the shop just begging to be turned. The combination of the two seemed perfect for this piece. Also, the time of year played into the design and title. Walnut was used for the base and the ball claw finial. The bats were hand cut from steel shim and painted flat black to add some caricature to the piece. Finished dimentions: 3" X 9 1/2"
Awesome! Love the way you also filled in the pod holes to look like eyes. This is such a fun piece!
