La Fiesta Oak!

With the vase having a very organic feel (having reshaped itself off the lathe), I was hoping to accentuate some of that movement through the lines and color. Unfortunately, the photo's color levels are off (i've been futzing with them but I've only made them worse-too blue). It is much prettier in person, but you can get the idea!
The lines are burned in and colored with alcohol-based colors.
-e-, that's a neat piece. Reminds me of a Tiffany style lamp. How did you mark out the lines? I've been wanting to try diamonds instead of squares on my mosaic pieces, but can't figure out how to line everything up properly. Any tips?

Hi Pam:
well, here's the big 'secret' on getting the lines drawn...just don't tell anyone (cause they'll think your as nuts as i am!)

First, i didn't want uniform lines, but a 'flowing' sense to go along with how the form unevenly dried and puckered. After many attempts to draw this out, I almost gave up.

Then, I was in the produce section of a grocery store where some 'fruit-thing' was encased in one of those plastic, large-mess bags. The lines were perfect for what i wanted ... proportional to the diameter.

i'm certain the produce-guy thought i was nuts when i asked if i could have a bag without the fruit, but he gave me one...

With the vase encased in the mess, i was able to study the lines and with a felt-tip pen, sketched through the bag to get the flow i was seeking.

i now have an appreciation for the art of dumpster-diving! lots of artistic-aids in there!
