Dragon Egg

Ive had this piece for over a year it was roughed out by jim mclain and he handed it down to me . I had it set aside and never really thought about turning it until i seen Robbie Graham turning a similar shape out of manzanita burl and inspired me enough to have a go at it. It was fun and didn't do bad on the lathe at all. Out side was turned and sanded then i moved to the inside for the hollowing. Because of the natural edges and the inclusions and worm holes i decided a dull finish would be more sutible for this piece. Plus i didn't feel brave enough to bring it anywhere close to a buffer. Lol It is a mesquite root ball and is 10"wide and 11.750" tall with a wall thickness of 5/16 . finished with plain ol boiled linseed oil.
