Mars Rising
A burl-capped lidded vessel with a tall finial in Tasmanian Myrtle and TransTint-dyed holly. The goal of this piece was to preserve as much of the burl characteristic as possible without placing the natural edge burl on the bottom.

Base: 1 3/4" dia.
Overall Height: 10 3/8"
Maximum Diameter: 6 3/4"
Wall Thickness: 3/8" (typ)
Finish: Waterlox and spray lacquer (finial)
Alan,

I can't wait to see this one in person. I hope you puit in at the Quiet Waters show.

Hi John,

I do intend to enter it into the Quiet Waters exhibition. It is one of 5 pieces that are part of a Black Finial Collection theme that I intend to enter. I'm going to try to post additional photos of Mars Rising later on this week; they will probably end up on my web site first. I want to take some additional images under better lighting conditions of all the pieces before I post them. Stay tuned...

I have been "studying" the Tasmanian Burl chunk that evolved into this piece for almost 4 years trying to envision a proper shape/theme for it. I'm pleased that you and Michael like what emerged from the chunk! Thanks for the 10's...

Best Regards,
-Allen
