Mesquite Bowl

Mesquite Bowl

Mesquite bowl with lacquer finish. Donated to local Tarrant Area Food Bank for upcoming Empty Bowls Project.
Bill, i like all three but this one stands out for me

Thanks, Charlie. The grain is really wild on this piece. I was not able to get a picture that could do justice to this bowl and I didn't really want to turn it upside down to get a shot of the bottom. However, I did consider putting on my macro lens to get a close up of a very attractive bark inclusion area near the bottom. The void created by the inclusion is actually rather large, but luckily I only sliced into one side of it just a little which makes a nice window to what was going on inside of the wood. It had a labyrinth like path that leads to a small opening on the interior. I had to tape the exterior in order to be able to get my vacuum chuck to hold it.

My wife says that the ladies who go to the Empty Bowls luncheon like wooden bowls that are hefty so I made most of them that way. Woodturners are the only people who really go for thin because they know how much harder it is to turn something really thin.
