Multi-Axis Birdhouses
Inspired by Frank Penta at a workshop,I discovered that these birdhouses are extremely fun and easy to turn. The double perch birdhouse is apple wood, while the single perch house is bradford pear. I used Deft lacquer spray finish especially as the natural bark is rough and would be hard to brush a decent finish on it. My birdhouses range in all sizes from miniature to overlarge. These are 9 1/2" high x 2 1/2" wide and 8 1/2" high x 3" wide. I would appreciate any and all comments on my work.
Ken,
The birdhouses were turned both chucked and centered. The birdhouse is made in three sections. The bottom was turned between centers with the offset toward the tailstock with 1" tenon on the top level which glues into the 1" hole on the bottom of the main house. The top was turned between centers and then the 1" tenon was chucked to finish the very top nicely. The bark section was turned on a pressure chuck after drilling the 1" center hole clear through it from top to bottom on a drill press. Embellishments of any sort may be added to make each one different.

Many thanks to the person who chose my work for the picture of the day. With all the wonderful pieces in the gallery, to have mine chosen is a wonderful feeling.

Ray
