close up of texturing
Ah Ha! That would explain the previous picture's somewhat mottled appearance. Very cool and detailed texturing on this piece. I'll bet it has a unique tactile feel when you pick it up.

Bob, I'm assumig you spent some significant time burning the texture into the piece.
Looks like a skin on the bowl- very nice!

Geepers, Bob...that's outstanding! I can't imagine the time it took for that texturing. You are a patient saint!

Thanks, guys!
Jeff: Yes, you are right, the "feel" of this piece is like no other that I have turned, with the texture and the lumps. It's also got an 1/8" wall thickness that tapers slightly thicker toward the base, giving it a lightness.
Phil: I spent several sessions on the exterior, totaling about 8 hours. The texturing was actually done with a Dremel engraver. No mess, just vibrations!
Jim: I will inform my wife about your saintly comment! I'm glad that I don't have to rely on my texturing abilities to make a living.

-e-,
funny you should mention the sea...
I rec'd word this week that this piece Bottle Brush Coral will be in the AAW sponsored "From Sea to Odyssey" exhibition held July 22-July 27 @ The Caribe Royale in Orlando site for the AAW 2004 Symposium, and then travel to the AAW Exhibition Gallery at the Landmark Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
