Yeah, I've heard it has built in indexing and a real spindle lock for starters.... I for one wouldn't mind if the bed were about 6 inches longer from stock

I kinda wish the bed was longer too. I bought the 18" bed extension but didn't put it on yet.

18" Extension
I've seriously considered that same extension, but, since my headstock pretty much lives at that end of the lathe, I'm not sure how it would work out with standing at the end for hollowing out bowls, etc,. - or for use with a floor stand toolrest. You'll have to post a picture and a lets us all know how you like it once you get it installed.

I too tend to live with the headstock at the end of the lathe since I do a lot of bowl work. I've thought about putting the extension on the left side of the lathe (when looking at the on/off button side). That would require taking off the headstock, moving the base, then remounting. It would give me the additional 18" and I would still be able to have the headstock come down to the end of the lathe for bowl work.
The advantage for me is that I don't have much room at the headstock end of the lathe on the floor. This configuration would allow for occupying the space in an efficient manner.

I had a need for a bed extension too, but the job I was doing wasn't paying enough for me to buy one. I was turning 48" newel posts and couldn't bury the cost of the extension in the price. After posting a message here on the forum, I got the idea that I could build one . I talked to a welder friend about my idea and he said it would still be more than I wanted to spend. So I made one out of Oak. I turned 6 newel posts without any problem. If there was flex it wasn't enough to be apparent in the finished product. Since I consider myself a bowl turner, I have unbolted the extension and put it away until I need it again.

Ron - I hadn't realized you had another lathe. Well that's good news. You'll appreciate your new mustard lathe quite a bit when you get it.
We are approaching the summer doldrums here. 85-95 degrees with afternoon humidity high enough to fry an unprotected noggin. It chases me out of the garage around 2pm. In the next 2 weeks I'll put a window unit in the garage wall to ward off some of the heat. In the meantime I have a pretty good kiln.
