    Odie -- FYI
The best screw chuck presently available is the Jerry Glaser screw chuck, available from Alan Lacer at:
    alanswoodturningstore.com

I have one of Jerry's originals. The screw Jerry metal used is the hardest, sharpest of any you can find.
Well worth the higher price compared to others that don't match up. After Jerry's passing the company
that supplies these through Alan Lacer continues to make the Glaser screw chuck to the same exact specs as the original.
    Good Luck! Lee Tourtelotte

      Product Description
The very best screw chuck on the market. Designed by Jerry Glaser, this versatile chuck allows for three different base sizes. The sharp high speed steel screw has remarkable holding powers. No other screw chuck on the market allows such versatility as this chuck. The three different configurations allow for these different base diameters: 1 1/2", 2 1/2" and 31/2". The bases are made with a narrow rim rather than a flat surface, which allows better holding strength on non-flat surfaces. To use, drill a 1/4" pilot hole into the wood blank slightly longer than the thread length of the chuck. If you need to limit the depth of screw penetration, simply make some thin "washers" from plywood or tempered hard board. The length of the screw is approximately 3/4".

Thanks Lee......Sorry, but for my purposes, the best is Precision Machine. If you have one to sell, let me know.

Precision Machine screw center chucks are very simple, made to one specific size, and made to very tight tolerances. The Glaser SC chuck is one of those "do-all" chucks that convert to several different sizes, and tries to be all things to all turners. I wouldn't buy one, specifically because of that.

Besides the simplicity and precision of the Precision Machine SC chucks, they are not as expensive as the Glaser. I often have 3-5 bowls mounted at one time, and currently have 10 Precision Machine SC chucks of various sizes. Do you think I should buy 10 Glaser SC chucks instead?
