As an ex-Army paratrooper, I'd say that's why we trained ... & carried a spare 'chute.

My younger brother was a jumper but I think he must have landed on his head a couple of times :)

Back when I was riding at a Sacramento Valley area barn (Davis), we were close to a drop-zone for skydivers at a close-by air strip. Will never forget watching a diver descending, with a crowd of his friends and colleagues watching as the picniced, and it became apparent his chute was not opening. Could't decide whether to watch or not. Then at seemingly the last possible moment, he popped what I assume was an emergency chute, hit the ground (hard!) and everyone in the group was whooping and hollering like they were at a football game. I was shaking like a leaf!
