Tim did an episode on my Christmas bell ornament last year.
If he hadn't sent me a DVD of the episode I would have never seen it.

There are no less than 6 PBS stations in my area, but they have all refused to carry any woodworking shows.

I called a few of them to request this but learned that once they stated to use Nielson to rate their shows instead of relying on website hits, they learned that they receive higher Nielson ratings for house flipping, house shopping, and making window coverings from bed sheets and staples. Shortly after that, Dave Hout and David Marks were dropped, and New Yankee could only be seen if the DVR caught it.

I am hopeful that as view on demand becomes more common, that the cost of offering special interest shows like these will be viable. For me the web is the only source for now.

A Big Thanks!

I have held off on posting about our show going ‘national’ because of the news of Mary Lacer. It just does not feel right to ‘brag’ about our good fortune at this time.

So let me start by saying that if it were not for Mary (along with Phil Brennion) embracing Woodturning Workshop and allowing us unrestricted access to the AAW and its symposiums, our show would have ended with season one. Her support gave Woodturning Workshop instant credibility and opened many doors for us. We can never thank her enough.

While I am at it I want to thank Carl Voss and Ed Davidson for going the extra mile by getting the word out about our show through print and web.

Now to ‘brag’ a bit I want to say that Woodturning Workshop ‘going national’ is not a victory for our station or me, but for all of the AAW members and the local woodturning clubs around the U.S.!

It was your support, phone calls and emails that got the programming committee at PBS Create to put WTW on their schedule. What you did was exceptional and nearly unheard of, because rarely will a network ever change its national programming lineup.

What this means is that starting July 15 your local PBS station will probably have WTW in their schedule. It will not be on your PBS station’s main channel but on one of their extra digital channels. 83% of the nation’s PBS stations carry the Create network, so if your local PBS station carries a second or third PBS channel you most likely already receive the Create network. Create is a secondary PBS 24-7 channel that carries only how-to and cooking shows.

Larry I think you finally might get to see WTW if you can pick up KLCS 58.3, that is their Create channel. Also I want to thank you publicly, for being so free and helpful with your ideas and projects. My hope is to have the budget someday to bring our camera and crew, myself and Bryan, (Hagan will stay home...he hates to fly:eek:) to your shop and feature you on your own episode.

Thanks again to all of you for the support... and remember...Keep Turning! :D

Tim,

Locally we started seeing your show around the first of the year. Then it seemed to have disappeared.

Then I stumbled on to it agan. They had changed the time and the guide on the cable channel had it mislabeled. That has been corrected.

Great show! Keep at it!

Looked for WTW in Houston.

Tim, I found WTW listed on Houston's PBS channel listings under SD 8.2 (satellite dish). Guess the people with cable like AT&T Uverse such as ourselves will be left out. What a shame. Maybe somehow the Create network could have some influence? I would like to see the show.

WTW on TV

Our Charter cable only has the regular PBS channels- one for Tennessee and one for Georgia. Looks like I'm outta luck!:( I'll look at the local paper and see if it's listed. FWIW, Charter has deleted the TV Guide channel so we either have to surf channels or look at the paper to see what's on.
Mr. Yoder, good luck with the show!

But Bill, according to dishNetwork...

...the episode on Channel 15 Daytona State College WDSC-TV is Turned Tern from 4-22-09, so it's not a new episode. Also, the 17th is this Saturday. PBS station out of Melbourne WBCC channel 68 continues to show re-runs @ 1:30pm on Sundays.

I just watched the Sandblasting episode... a great show.

This is the first time our cable company has aired any part of the series.

For me, the show had just the right balance of information, demonstration, humor, and cool toys.

I'm looking forward to this series, and would like to see earlier seasons if they become available.

It's so refreshing to see a show done right!

Thanks Tim,
looks like I am missing it by .3
I do get the main KLCS channel 35 here, but not the extended channels like 35.3, so I am calling my cable provider to see what I can do.

I thought your new series was to start on the 15th. Watched your show Friday night and you was making the bell for Christmas. Then they showed next week with the fishing lure. (reruns)

Can you fill us in?;)

BTW; here it is Think TV PBS 16.3 "create"

Tim ....

...don't know if it would help these guys around the country or not but, could you post the information to the shows that they could give to the local stations so they could get the program director to add it to their station.

I'm getting ready to record "Shipping Tube Ornament" recording today on channel KUEN-9 4:00 PM from Salt Lake City. So far I'll seen "Segmented Vessel parts 1 & 2, "Banksia Pod Box", "Preparing Bowl Blanks" and "Southwest Sandblasted Vessel" all new shows. If you can't see them, I suggest purchasing the DVD's, they are that good, I am just a fan of the show.

There are four seasons of the Woodturning workshop, finished, done, etc.

I believe that the only national feed (currently) airing is Season 4 on PBS-Create.

Some PBS stations are carrying various seasons still

For a list of all four seasons shows, visit RSU-TV's web-site, here

(this is also the link to order DVDs)

Wtw

Sorry for the late update. We are working on a documentary on Will Rogers and I am traveling all over the U.S. shooting interviews.

Mark, the tool I used was an Elbo tool. Stan Townsend is a member of our local club and he gave me one to try a few years ago. It works very well for small turning jobs.

Bill, I checked out your local PBS station and I can understand your confusion. It looks like they have created their own ‘How To’ channel and it is running season three episodes. I imagine if you gave them a call they could tell you if and when they might start running season four.

Glen that is a good idea. If your station does not carry the Create channel you can tell them that the show is available through NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association). http://www.netaonline.org The station will be familiar with the service and can contact them to acquire the episodes.

Thanks to all of you for the support. We were caught off guard by Create’s decision to run our show so our new website is still under construction, but in the upcoming months we hope to add several new features. http://www.woodturning.rsupublictv.org

If you have any questions or suggestions post them here or PM me and I will do my best to respond!

I don't recall ever seeing it in the local listings (2 PBS affiliates, 1 carrying the Create channel), but sure wish I could find this on my OTA schedule between now and Thursday evening. I've got 3 ratings diaries to record our viewing 'til then and currently the only place to find out ANYthing is the show's web site. I'm guessing it must be on hiatus.

I get it for a while then lose it, then get it back, then lose it.
Now I get it for special occasions...ornament episode around Christmas, Teaching Kids to Turn episode on the station's kids day.

I know there are a lot of episodes I haven't seen...and would like to.
