Now that World of Woodturners (WOW) is closing, where are you going to post your pictures?

I used to occasionally frequent WOW, but stopped for a while. I would like to see pictures of work posted from other turners.

I know I can see work in the gallery here; but I liked the format of WOW - although it was a little hard to sign up etc.

There was an email sent about alternative sites; but I was just wondering which of these most are choosing to frequent.

EDIT:
I think I found it

WoW isn't going away, it's moving to a new and better site. Ancestry.com is shutting down the MyFamily service and has suggested some alternate sites for family photo and message sharing -- that email was not generated by WoW. Basically, Facebook was doing for free what MyFamily was charging money for. The structure of MyFamily seemed to be an awkward fit WoW in my opinion. The new software is supposed to be tailored to better fit the needs of the WoW community.

Being new to turning I never got to experience the WOW site
just had a look-see and read for registration you'd need a referral from an existing member, or contact an admin, I saw no contact details .....

So, I'd like a chance to see & participate, if any existing members would care to send me a referral I'd be appreciative
just tell me what info you need from me for this to happen

TIA

The new site should be up soon. Once it's up and running, you can request to be a part of the group. The link mentioned above will give you a preview of what the new site will look like.

thanks for the reply billooms
I've been to the site, liked what I saw so far, wasn't sure if anything else was hidden because I wasn't a member
will wait and see when it's fully functional and up-n-running.

fresh from Papa Herm

Looks like it will take awhile to get current members into the new site especially since they are checking for bugs with a small roll-out, very wise!

Once current members are moved over then looks like new invitees will be welcome again. WOW is a great site, patience will be rewarded.

You can check out the public page at (link at the
bottom, read this first) for the site. DO NOT try to
log in until you get an invitation.

The first 100 invites going out Monday. The second
batch depends on how the first one works.
Everything on the new site today is working very
smoothly, so let's keep our fingers crossed. If you
aren't in the first group, or second, or third, don't
get all cranked about it. I had a few people I wanted
to see in the first group, but almost everyone is a
random pick. I hope in a week and a half we are all
on. I will let you know via the other two sites, how it
is going.

If you are in the first batch - DO NOT INVITE any
new members until we say it is OK. Matter of fact, I
may ask Abi to turn that function off for now,
because there are a lot of people that will not read
the invitation email.

Anyway, I thought I would give you the news that it
is ready.

Invite

I would like to get on the invite list. I was a member years ago but got away from turing. Now getting back into turning I look forward to the inspiration of seeing the work of others

Thanks

New WoW site about to go live

I've been beta testing the new WoW site along with other administrators. It's going to be really great, so please stay tuned for invitations, if you are a current member of WoW. The next phase will include 100 users, and then it should be ready for activation.

There was a special session for WOWies at SWAT this afternoon. I didn't attend so I don't know what sort of activities they engage in at the symposiums, but they are very much alive and well.

We did our usual exchange, with pictures taken. Hopefully the pictures will be posted once the new WoW site is fully operational.

got my invite

I don't know if I was a lucky one of the first hundred that were mostly randomly selected or the big roll out is here. Papa Herm did request that no new members be invited or a bunch of photo's dumped until we get the original members from the old site on and things settle down. Might be a month or more.

Ricc, Jerry, Don, anyone else wanting to become a new member might make a note to remind me or another existing member a month or six weeks from now. I'd try to remember but I don't remember what I had for breakfast most mornings.

proof

I suspect you could count yourself lucky. Apparently 700 invitations have gone out now -- I still haven't gotten one.

Guess this proves the saying better to be lucky than good! I definitely didn't have any inside track. I found the e-mail last night but was worn out so I haven't used my invite yet. I'm excited to be getting WOW back but this south Louisiana summer drains all the ambition out of me.

I am having a senior moment ... actually more than a moment. I reached password overload about a dozen passwords before WOW so I haven't been active on that forum for a while. I'll wait until after things settle down for a while to get it reset.

The log-in's "forgot your password" link sends a re-set password link to your email right away...so I am told. :D

The email sounded like I was supposed to create a new password, but when I clicked on the link to enter my personal data and password, everything seemed OK until I tried to log in. After several failed attempts, I did what you suggested and got an email to reset my password. Now, everything is working fine and I am a happy camper.

I don't know why but I received 1,300 + invitations for the new WoW site on my IPad while at SWAT. The good news was that the site did not crash. Herm and his team have done a great job. I have an issue uploading at the moment and when it is straightened out I will post the WoW Exchange pictures on the new WoW site.

Hi Everyone,
So...am I to understand that the "New WOW" web site is up and running? But to get on it we have to be sent an invitation? Even if we were part of the "Old WOW" web site?

I admit that I was mostly a lurker on WOW, but I did so on most days. Once in awhile I would answer something. I even think I have a picture or two there also ...at least on the old site.

So...how do I get back on the "New WOW" web site?
Thanks.

Hugh, you should be getting an invitation to rejoin the new WoW soon if you were a member before. When you do you follow the link to create a password and you are in.

You are not the only lurker. From all the posts I gather there are ~2400 WoWers out there but you can count those who post regularly on two hands. I for one don't feel like posting just to post. If I have an urge to say something I'll do it. Otherwise I'll just enjoy what others have to say or show. Frankly, it's not that different here at the AAW forum.

I'm also patiently waiting for my invitation as instructed. I assume it will arrive when they eventually get through all of the names..... ...a consequence, perhaps, of having a "W" name..... ??

I am sure the new site will be wonderful and better designed for WoW activities...

Supposedly everybody has now received their email with instructions for logging in. Let me know if you haven't and I will let one of the administrators know.

Bill,
I just checked my e-mail and there was no invite to the new WOW web site. If you could do some magic or ? I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

I need to know your name that you go by on WoW. There are four Hugh's on the members list not counting a Hu and a Hughie and they want last name as well as first.

There was a thread started by Herman saying that everybody should have been invited so our job now is to to see if there are any members who didn't receive their invitation. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to broadcast your last name to the whole world. Also let me know your email address if it has changed since you last updated your personal information on WOW.

UPDATE: I RECEIVE A NEW EMAIL THIS MORNING AND HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM IT
All of you should have received an invitation to the new site by now. Remember, your username there is your email address and that cannot be changed at present. If you try to login with anything else it will not work. If you get a "bad password" notification, click " forgot password" and you will be sent a reset.

If you have not received an invitation, let me know at papaherm@gmail.com

Sending an email to Herman ought to get things straightened out.
