I am so happy to have found this forum. My wife and I live in Magnolia, Texas. I am 73. I was fortunate enough to start working in a cabinet shop in 1974, after working 3 years framing houses. The owner of that shop was an East German who escaped and came to the US. He had served his carpenter apprenticeship there. He was very very skilled and woodworking knowledgeable. I worked for him for 11 years and did my best to do a lot less talking than I did listening. I went on to work for another 31 years in both residential and commercial settings. My last job before retirement was for a school district in their maintenance department as a cabinet maker and commercial repairs and new construction. I was able to buy a Delta DL 40 from an auction right before retirement. I had always enjoyed working in woodworking, but I fell in love with working on that lathe. That was 10 years ago and I now spend most of my time in my back yard shop turning bowls and building things for family and friends. Looking forward to interacting with my woodworking brothers here, even if it’s just over the internet.
