Basic bowl block was a very wet 36 percent MC. Bowl was roughed out and completely anchorsealed on Jan 29, 2011. After three months seasoning, bowl developed a severe case of grungy looking mildew, so I had to return it to the lathe and re-turn to a roughed state without the mildew......almost lost this bowl, but the re-turn worked.....now no mildew present. Overall the roughed bowl took 14 months to stabilize the moisture content. The bowl sat around for a few months, because I couldn't decide what shape I wanted, and how to do it, but was finished turned on May 5, 2012. The bowl has 9 separate surfaces, so detail sanding was required. Also sports 5 detail grooves along the rim. Foot was completed with my "signature" configuration and my stylized logo made from my initials. Raw bowl block was 22% MC. After roughing out and completely anchorsealing, the bowl took 6 months to stabilize the MC. Birdseye Maple is one of my favorite domestic woods. Such beautiful grain, and it turns and finishes superbly. It is extremely hard, as most Maple is, so sharp tools are a must for the best finish. I wish I could find more of this wood a bit larger, because I don't believe I've ever had any Birdseye Maple any larger than 8" wide. Still working on making perfect multiple detail grooves with perfect spacing. Maple takes a clean cut well, but extra effort to produce precise clean cuts is necessary. (Detail grooves show up much clearer in the next two photos) (To inspect details closer up, click on photo to enlarge.) ooc odie Sat, 12 May 2012 00:59:04 -0700 787-2 Birdseye Maple http://www.aawforum.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=10864

by: odie

Description: Profile view Five detail grooves.
