Best exotic wood suppliers
I am headed from Cleveland down to Wilmington Nc and then to Savanah next week and would like to buy wood along the way. Where are the best suppliers.

There is an eBay seller, ncwoods, whose location is "Archer Lodge", near Wendell NC - which is a bit east of Raleigh, and on your way to go to Wilmington and the coast from the Raleigh/Durham/Greensboro area. I'm not sure if Gary does direct retail sales, but you might want to contact him in advance of your trip to see if you could stop by and see what he has. All of the wood blanks I've gotten from him over the years have been of good quality. I have no relationship to him other than being a satisfied eBay customer. He has really nice domestic woods and some unusual exotics as well.

Not sure how exotic their wood is, but I've had good buying experience with the Leigher brothers at Got Wood? which is located in Donalds, SC. Maybe that's near where you're headed. They've got an excellent variety of American woods, and some seem pretty exotic to me living here in the Northern Rockies. www.turningblanks.net

Donalds SC is on the northwestern side of the state. A very long way from where he'll be.

Near Jacksonville/Wilmington is World Timber in Hubert, NC. Website is http://www.worldtimbercorp.com/ I can't recommend them highly enough, especially if you can get there when they aren't busy. They're a wholesaler, but all you've got to do is buy over $200 or $250 and you're in - no sales tax either. They're prices are really good and they're willing to let you pick boards out of stacks (they'll get them out with a forklift for you). I went there with two other guys from one of my club and we each ended up dropping over $700. Just either bring something to haul 8' to 10' boards or a small chain saw. They've both kiln and natural dried planks to over 4" thick. I picked up an 8' x 3" x 12" board of highly figured yellow heart (never seen it anywhere else) along with a whole lot more.

If your coming down I-95 through Virginia take a left at Richmond onto I-64 and visit Jim Syvertsen in Chesapeake. His Australian Burls are out of this world!
