I participate in a Community Market where I sell turned items. I want to sell a few kids' toys (tops, whistles small animals, fidget sticks), but I can not find any insurance company that offers liability insurance for makers of kids' toys. Any suggestions?

kids toys have to be certified by a third party that they are safe
With certification, do you know of companies that offer liability insurance policies? If so, can you suggest some. As soon as I mention that I want to make kids' toys to an insurance agent, I am told that the company does not write liability policies for kids toys.

There is a clear distinction between "childrens" and "general use" product safety (3rd party testing) requirements...and resulting libility insurance considerations.

Here's a series of quotes from the Consumer Product Safety Commission's site that apply: "Children's products are subject to a set of federal safety rules, called children's product safety rules. Determining how your product is classified enables you to identify correctly the set of children’s product safety rules applicable to your product. The law defines a "children's product" as a consumer product designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger...General use products are consumer products that are not designed or intended primarily for use by children 12 years of age or younger...Some products may be designed or intended for use by consumers of all ages, including children 12 years old or younger. Such products would be considered "general use products"."

You need to find an agent who is willing to do some legwork for you, this will be a specialty insurance product, not something offered in general. Ask your agent to try someone like Quaker Special Risk, for example. Unless you do a whole lot of business I suspect you will find it to be economically unfeasible-- given that general business liability starts with a minimum premium of something like $1000/year (at least where I live), this is going to be a multiple of that. That's a lot of tops!
