Ok, admittedly a sensitive topic....is anyone else’s having problems wit ordering items through Woodcraft? I order from them, recently a lathe, it was in stock when I ordered, now being told it’s out of stock....on prior orders, admittedly when making post purchase changes, lots of phone time to get correct monies refunded.....amazon seems a lot less trouble???

Now you know why mr. Bezos is the richest guy! And his ex wife is the richest woman!

amazons business is delivery.

woodcrafts business is brick and mortar with a delivery sideline.

craft supply and Packard are delivery businesses for woodturners.

The following was part of the Rockler email ad on Sept 17:

ATTENTION POWER TOOL SHOPPERS!

There is a nationwide run on power tools, and manufacturers are having a tough time keeping everything in stock. What does this mean for you? If you're considering buying power tools for your own shop or to give as gifts this holiday season, we highly recommend purchasing them as soon as you can. This will ensure you get products still in stock — or get in line for earlier shipments for products on back order. We are updating our website daily with the manufacturers' current back order dates, so you know what to expect. We thank you for your business and your patience as our suppliers work through this unprecedented demand.

Seems like there are back logs in a lot of businesses. I got a mountain bike last Sunday. They had 3 in stock at the store. They have back orders as far back as 6 months. I have a bike rack for the car on back order for 2 months now. Things are like that for a while to come I think.... They can't get paper bags at the grocery store....

Funny, after all the smoke we had from fires, things have gone back to 'normal'. We only have the flu to deal with..... At least the swimming pool is open again....

Unless things have dramatically changed, Woodcraft's business is not brick and mortar. It's a catalog business and franchisee business. Most of the brick and mortar are owned by franchisees and every item they sell has a corporate fee. That actually makes it tough on the franchisee because Woodcraft sends out corporate emails with sale or clearance pricing, which causes customers to go to the store and ask for price matching. That can come close to loosing money for the franchisee on some items.

Claudio, did you order from a store or corporate? It would not be uncommon for a franchisee to have old data on corporate inventory.

Amazon is usually johnny on the spot, BUT, I ordered recently a lot of sandpaper. They took 2 months to deliver to me, only recently received it. I ordered my lathe from Amyzon this past spring, they gave me the best deal with shipping included. I was caught by surprise on how fast it was delivered. It's a gamble, can be very quick, can be slower than a snail in winter. With this covid going on, lots more ppl staying home buying on the net and getting into hobbies they normally would not do. Many more ppl than normal, alot of things are going to take a long time to get back to normal and restocked. As an example, one of my many hobbies is glamping. We have a nice camper so no problem but we wanted to upgrade to a new toy hauler. Last year you could find them with some steep clearance prices but I held off... should not have.... can't find the one I want now. Most sold long before they hit the lot. Dealers say since covid, everyone wants one now. It's also why I now have too many guns sitting without ammo available but I degress.

The factories and manufacturers have also reduced their output due to the pandamit. Those countries have also had stay at home orders and outbreaks. I ordered a set of saw blades from Infinity in May. They said don't expect delivery until the end of July. They didn't actually arrive until mid Sept. I am quite certain that was an issue with Infinity's supplier, and not Infinity itself.

As to why websites don't seem to be able to maintain accurate inventory information, all I can say is that problem is not unique to any one retailer in my experience.

As usual, I appreciate the rapid and robust responses. It is an interesting time in the history of the Modern Era. I received an email this morning with tracking information....Yay team! I may get totally excited and post a picture of it when it is set up!

Amazon has been terrible at late. I understand shortages and delays; that's not what I'm complaining about. It's the difference between the delivery date promised at ordering time vs the actual that has become completely unreliable, in both directions. It's especially irritating when I order a more expensive item based on the promised date and then it gets delayed by a week or more-- this week it was a special battery for my wife's listening aid, ordered Sunday with a promised date of Tuesday (yesterday) but now delayed until next Monday. They have enough compute power so that their prediction should be better than that!

Was Amazon the actual fulfiller? As often as not, there can be another company involved in the supply chain. There is a major shift going on in the world supply chain and it won't be fixed soon. Politicians are still playing with world trade and I expect horrible things from that. The only real supply I worry about these days involves my survival. PPE, my support drugs, hospital ER beds, etc... My wife had to change pharmacies when CVS had a shortage of her blood pressure meds. A couple of weeks for non life supporting items is just fine with me.

Prior to last week, I was a solid "Amazon Believer". That has changed - and not for the better.... Amazon has opened a distribution center less than 20 minutes from my house. And the last 3 items I have ordered from Amazon ( I ONLY order Amazon PRIME..so they fulfill the order) have been assigned to Amazon's delivery fleet. NONE have arrived at my house. Third strike. Looking at Walmart.com and other resources to replace Amazon. Wasn't it enough to be the richest man in the world, and allow shipping to be handled by UPS/USPS? I do not envy the rich - nor do I hate the poor. But I DESPISE greed beyond the measure of human boundaries.......
Really, really frustrated......

It’s all fun and we have been ordering a lot since Covid.
I have the same question as Richard

when amazon is fulfilling the order we get it on schedule. There is an amazon delivery truck on our road (30 houses on a 1.5 mile road) twice a day.

3rd party is a whole mixed bag
hearing aid batteries I just got we’re a third party fullfillment Which came a week earlier than the delivery date promised.
I have cancelled several 3rd party orders because of delivery delays.
Two orders we sort of skipped the fine print that they were coming from Japan and China one was on time the othe a few days late- emails came with updated delivery schedules.

we live out in the country 7 miles to spend money. 12 miles to a real store.
UPS is always on time.
Fed ex ground is almost always a day late on delivery.
Post office deliveries are often a day late - arriving at our post office 9AM on the delivery date but missing the letter carriers truck. ( letter carrier is the closest neighbor to the East 1/2 mile)

Interesting comment. For me, Amazon is good, with the above noted limitations of third party sales....unless they use USPS. Then, it becomes....dicey. Interesting that we all deal with the same issues.

That's happening for a lot of things. I ordered a refrigerator with a delivery time of a 2-3 days from a national chain. It was supposed to arrive ~18 July. It's been delayed five times.

Responding to a prior question regarding the order from Woodcraft...yes, through the website, I believe this would be a "corporate" order. It is interesting with this company. If you can escalate to a customer support supervisor, things get handled appropriately. The initial encounter, however, can be iffy...in my experience. At any rate, my lathe is on it's way and shipped two business days later than promised.....I guess I am picky....but...in the Time of Covid....there is not much else on which to focus my attention....except I Love Lucy reruns.......... :)
