This piece was fourth in the series of hollow forms turned from the Vermont Maple log as I posted last year. Still have two more hollow forms ready and waiting for what to add as far as carving and/or texture. This piece was carved in tribute to John Jordan from whom I took a class. I doodled on paper to decide what to carve and came up with the double spiral fluting using his technique. It looked good on paper but I was dubious how it might turn out. I hopefully have not embarrassed him too much. This Maple log had a lot of spalting and some checking, but held together quite well for the carving and finishing. The piece measures 6 x 6 and was finished with several coats of Krylon matt lacquer and hand polished with paper towel.
