Hop-hornbeam (ironwood)

Hop-hornbeam (ironwood)

The most dense wood I have ever turned. This 4 1/2' jar was turned from a 5 1/2" diameter log that had 94 growth rings.
I went back and counted the growth rings on my hornbeam vase. I counted about 70 growth rings in the final vase (4 inch diameter), so I estimate the tree was close to 100 years old and only about 5 inch diameter.
