  • 3/30/21 - We finished what was hopefully the last part of the forum upgrade we started earlier this month, the rebuilding of all of the permissions. In our testing everything seems to be working correctly but if you have any problems please post in the "Forum Technical Support" forum and we will take a look at it. You will also see a few changes with the main forum index. We have moved the AAW Member Forums to their own group and the Marketplace Forums to their own group. This simplified the permissions configuration for the forums and hopefully it will make the forums a little easier to naviagate. Thanks!

Ooppss

Ooppss resulted from a cored set of Hackberry bowls which have been drying on a shelf since 2007. They seemed to be fully dry and had quite a bit of movement through the 5 years of curing. The design opportunity arose from being too aggressive on the outside bowl which resulted in a parting of the ways for the upper rim portion of the bowl. After turning the upper portion of the bowl away, it fit perfectly as a lid or as a base platter as you can see. So, a flower bud finial was created which would stand on the 3 petals when used as a base. This project will be donated to the empty bowls in Houston this coming weekend. The nested set size is 6 diameter by 4 high and finished with buffed Waterlox.
Oh wow Bill. The empty bowls project is getting a real jewel. Do it again. I can see the same shape, etc. with the bowl/lid having a bit of dye added.

Gary, The flower and bud are made of Ash, merely a square piece of wood that was laying around. The dye is Dharma fiber reactive procion MX.

Hal, Thanks for your interest. I was trying to get it done for the empty bowl project and I think your idea of adding dye to the Hackberry would be a definite asset. Don't know if I want to purposely blow up another cored set to do it again though. Maybe! Thanks for your complimentory comments.
