Yes, we are progressing into some new territory. Twitter is a pretty easy way to stay up to speed with what's going on, with frequent short (less than 140 character) "tweets" on AAW current events and woodturning related announcements. Click on this link to access the AAW Twitter channel, join Twitter if you're not signed up already, and follow our tweets. This should be fun.

Thanks but I think I will stick to the forum.:D

+1,

for some reason facebook and twitter remind me of IM, forums were around before them and will be around after them.
I can still read some of the forum topics from years ago, ever try to look up an IM from 5 years ago.

just my opinion

I totally agree with you and Barbara. I like coming to one place to find out what's going on in the AAW woodturning world. I like searching the archives.

Personally, I have no use for the words twitter, or tweet in the context of this string of posts, except for the beautiful songs sung by birds.
I reckon I am of an age which is at odds with the age I am in.
Of course, we are Americans, in America, so if you wish to twitter and tweet, stand proudly up on your limb, and tweet to your hearts content.
Just remember the Solders who fight to keep that right alive for you.

I joined Twitter a couple of weeks ago, mainly as a marketing tool. I'm posting updates on new pieces in progress, events, etc. to try to drive some traffic to my website. Admittedly, I'm using it to try to sell my work, but I've also found out about turners I don't know, gallery links, etc.

It's a lot of slogging through people trying to sell me stuff like web sites, insurance, Viagra, etc., but I think there's some value to it as a marketing tool. Time will tell.

Incidentally, my website is alancarterstudio.com just in case you missed the whole commercial thrust of my reply.

Next stop is Facebook and Myspace so I can spend all my time at the computer.

That's the problem I have, the "slogging", the "friend requests" from people who are simply trying to increase their numbers.
Earlier this year, while our son was in Iraq, I signed up with Facebook to use their instant messaging feature. I soon discovered why I did not want to be there (FB). After two months I got off Facebook and used Google ichat for our Iraq chats.
I'm with Barbara and here's one more who won't be tweeting.

I also agree with what several have said. I'd hate to miss an announcement or event because it was just on Twitter, etc. I use my computer quite a bit, but I'D RATHER TURN THAN TWEET!!!;) The AAW website, as it continues to grow better, is plenty for me. I don't need any more reasons to be online.
