I have had a bad cough and nearly constant sinus problems for 8 or 9 years now. Been all over the Mid Atlantic, to all manner of specialists. Recently had another series of tests. Per the Doc, I am sensitized, ie allergic to maple, oak and chestnut. (and a few other things) Doc says try going to the beach for a few days and pay attention to off shore or on shore breezes and symptoms. hey, will insurance pay for that prescription? Anyway went to beach for 4 days. stopped coughing about 24 hours after arrival. was fine the rest of the time there. So we are driving home from the beach. We stop at a traffic light next to and down wind to a giant chestnut tree in full bloom. My eyes start watering, my nose runs like a faucet and I can't stop coughing. Wife had to take over driving. We get home and daughter's boyfriend is cutting up a branch in the back yard. I went out to say thanks. The branch is old and dead and fell out of an oak. The electric chain saw is kicking up all kinds of dust. We speak for a few minutes, I go in the house to get some burgers for on the grill and when I get back out to the back yard, I start with the runny nose and coughing again, but not as severe as earlier. I end up wheezing. So I go in the shop and get my dual filter dusk mask. Wheezing, runny nose and coughing resolve in the few minutes to cook the burgers.

So tomorrow I start a series of allergy shots. that are supposed to desensitize me to these things. Any one ever go through these types of shots, and do they work?

Obviously, you are allergic to pollen. Judging from your thread you have some severe problems that need to be addressed before they get worse. Check out www.pollen.com to keep up to date on what is blooming in your area. I'm allergic to just about everything that blooms, been fighting it for about 50 years. People can't understand why I like winter. Shots will help but there is the 20% that don't get help- my wife is one. Going to the beach might help but pollen is there plus you can't do that unless you move there. My best times were in the desert SW, specifically NM.

The chance that allergy shots will work is a perfect question to address to the person who is recommending it and to whom you are about to pay big bucks. Along with, what are my other choices and what are the pros and cons of all of them, being two other good ones.

Back in the day, it was common for people to move to another part of the country for their health. Plenty of micro climates available in a country this big!

Had the same problem, took the shots about 12 yrs ago, helped immensely and still working. They dont work for everyone, but there can be a lot of reasons they dont. It is important to follow the schedule, not to the day, but dont skip shots. I asked for an accelerated schedule of 1 per week vs 1/ 2 weeks, they agreed which got me through the schedule in 1/2 the time.
