Oh boy. Not again. I'm new to AAW (just a year and half), but I've seen this sort of thing so many times in other clubs and organizations that I've belonged to. A motorcycle club's journal editor is fired for political reasons despite having produced a great journal, and lots of people quit as a result. A bad book or product review results in hurt feelings, many come to the victim's defense, and lots of people quit as a result. Another club's president's head gets a bit too big and he pushes through changes to the bylaws giving him all the power and control of finances. Lots of people quit as a result and the decades-old club very nearly closes. The journal of a craft-based organization turns into 100% fine arts appealing to the big names, and all the amateurs are left out. Lots of people quit as a result. I was kinda hoping that AAW would be different. As a professional association administrator I just have to roll my eyes.

AAW Forum Members - as you may have noticed, we decided to hide this thread last night as some of the posts in the thread were going against the forum rules; no self-promotion, keeping all conversations relevant to woodturning and keeping all conversations civil along with making sure there are no personal attacks against other forum members, the AAW or specific AAW Staff and Board members. Due to violations of these rules, this thread was locked and hidden last night to let things cool down. I have deleted a few of the posts in the thread that went against these rules but I am now unlocking the thread.

Please remember the AAW Forums are volunteer member managed and moderated. While Bill, Emiliano and I run the forums, we are not AAW Staff or AAW Board members, but what we do here directly reflects on the AAW itself, so we try to enforce these rules as fairly as possible. The forums are for open for discussion and while we understand from time to time, a topic can turn contentious, we ask that you stay on topic, follow the rules and keep civil with each other and stay away from attacking anyone. A good example of what this thread should have been was the one John Kelsey started yesterday about this same topic. We hope this thread becomes constructive and helpful to all the members here but if things turn for the worse we will have to lock it again. Thank you for your help!
