Check out the special events:

Special Events at the DWR 2009:

Learning and enjoyment at DWR 2009 doesn't stop with the demonstration rotations! Check out the other events lined up for the weekend:

Demonstrator Meet and Greet:

Friday evening stop in and enjoy a refreshment, mingle with fellow woodturners, and have a chat with one of the demonstrators. More details to come...

Penturners Demonstration:

The International Association of Penturners will be having a demonstration on Friday evening. Stop in and see heirloom quality writing instruments created by some of the top penturners in the area.

Door Prizes and Silent Auction:

A variety of prizes await randomly selected registrants. Prizes may be woodturning related, woodworking related, or of general interest. Area woodturners have donated some of the finest woodturned pieces for silent auction. Proceeds benefit educational woodturning programs to be held in the Valley of the Sun.

Instant Gallery:

The instant gallery continues to be one of the mainstay attractions of the Desert Woodturning Roundup. The gallery will be open to the general public. Fine pieces will be displayed by demonstrators, and attendees from throughout the nation. Regional attendees often bring pieces representive of the materials and design influences of the desert Southwest.

Banquet and Live Auction:

Saturday night, we continue the tradition of the DWR banquet and auction. Join us for an evening of fine food and conversation. This is also your opportunity to bid on fine quality woodturnings to add to your collection. The proceeds support educational programs promoting the woodturning craft in the Valley of the Sun.

Vendor Area:

Looking for that special tool you saw used in a demonstration? Stop in our Vendor Area and pick one up at a discount. You'll save on shipping costs too. Some vendors will also be demonstrating their latest gadget to make your woodturning experience more enjoyable. One can never have enough tools. This is also your chance to pick up local woods that are hard to find in other parts of the country. To see which vendors will be attending, click the vendors link to the left.

T-shirts:

With your registration packet, you receive a Desert Woodturning Roundup 2009 T-shirt in the size of your choosing. It's fashionable to wear at your next woodturning event or black-tie affair.

Spouses' Retreat Area:

Maybe woodturning isn't your thing, but you'd still like to get together, enjoy some company, and trade stories. Like the time your spouse salvaged that log containing the ant's nest. Come meet other woodturner's spouses, work on crafts together, or plan an adventure in the Valley of the Sun. Registration is NOT required to participate.

Photo Gallery:

Photos of instant gallery items, action shots from demonstrations, and pictures of people just having plain old fun will be available on this website shortly after DWR2009.

Informal Events:

Check your favorite chat room or discussion board for informal happenings taking place before or after the symposium.

Consider reserving your hotel, too

Allow me to add to Martin's reminder that you might want to reserve your hotel room. The DWR committee has arranged for a block of rooms at a special rate at the local Marriott (which right next to the site of the DWR). The last day for reserving a room at those rates is not until January 13, 2009, but nothing guarantees they won't run out of rooms before then. February's a busy month for us in Arizona (it's the middle of our tourist season), so, whether you're staying at the Marriott or at one of the (still) less expensive alternatives, you might want to reserve something now.

Hope you can make it!

Last day folks - if you plan to attend and want to take advantage of the early registration discount, like I did, you must register by the end of the day.
