This week, the new woodturning studio began its life with ten students taking a course on hollowing with wildman Cliff Lounsbury. In this intermediate class, the students hollowed three forms in the first day and a half. Then, Cliff got the creative juices flowing as they used a variety of tools to carve on the vessels. The class was having a great time when I visited on Wednesday.
This new studio, the Willard Baxter Woodturning Studio, is a wonderful addition to the campus of JCC. Note: we now have a building with air conditioning! The new studio features 10 lathe stations, a demo area, a finishing room, plus much more. Take a look at the website to see the excellent offerings for your continued learning: www.folkschool.org.
What I am really proud of is that the money for the building was raised by individual and chapter gifts rather than any large foundation grants. Folks who have been to JCC, folks that appreciated Willard's contribution to the growth of woodturning...all were generous is providing this resource that will serve our organization for generations. Thank you for your support.
