1968 Maple Burl (large epoxy repair)

view of foot and exterior.

The epoxy repair is at 5 o'clock in the photo. It was done by mixing clear epoxy with fine shavings from this bowl. It was taped with hockey tape on both interior and exterior to localize the epoxy while it cured, and then re-turned on the lathe. The epoxy emulsion responds well to very sharp tools.

Odie, is your signature “brand”/initials done with a brand or a pyrography pen? I have a brand that I stopped using because I’ve gotten inconsistent results with it, and worry about ruining an otherwise good piece. Beautiful work, as usual!

Thanks, Lou..... :)

I did try to have a branding iron once, but that didn't work out.....just too easy to mess it up if not held perfectly perpendicular to the surface being branded. My signature logo is done with a "Woodwriter" similar to pyrography pens......but now long discontinued. Hint: As long as you design a logo using all straight lines, the pyrography pen will work fine.....but if there are curved lines, it becomes very difficult to do them this way in any fashion that looks decent.
