AAW January 2011 Contest

Form: Western red cedar, turned, carved, wire brushed. 18.5"H x 3.25"W. Suspended by mangrove driftwood. Overall dimensions are 40"H x 9"W.

Going with the organic nature of my pieces lately, I decided to create this suspended form for the contest. It is based on another of my beachcombing findings, along with mangrove drift wood for supports, which are pinned to the form with hidden brass rods. I decided to not apply any finish to this piece, as I like it just the way it is.

Thanks for looking, and as always, C&C's are most welcome!
Rick. I really love this piece. I've been playing around with some shell ideas lately and love the idea. Really like this and your post posted work. Thanks for sharing.

Hi all, thanks for your kind comments and wonderful ratings, I really appreciate it.

rtgleck, look long and hard at those shells that inspire you, study their nuances well, ask yourself how you would accomplish what you see...then have at it.

Woodscaper, looking at the entries so far, Neil Scobie will be pondering which to proclaim as the winner for quite awhile.

Smiles,
Rick
