Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

Maple, 6" x 4.5". I set out to do a largeish box. Towards the end I fiddled with the lid too much so it ended up smaller than the base. I find the form to be awful (it looks worse live, in my opinion), but I'll post it anyway. I did nearly make a calabash with the base, though.

Kent, In what way do you think it's 'awful'? Are there any little touches or changes you could apply that would make it less so? For your next piece, what will you do differently?

The only issue is the bottom is too fat. It just looks dumpy to me. Also, where the lid meets the base, it looks like the base is bigger. It's an optical illusion, so there's nothing I could do differently, I think.
