Camphor Calabash

Camphor Calabash

This was my first time using Camphor Laurel. It lived up to it’s reputation in all regards—smelled like Vicks rub, was soft for a hardwood, and had an amazingly beautiful color. I love the oblique grain in this little calabash. It’s the smallest one I’ve made, coming in a 2.5”h x 3.5”d. This was my only piece of Camphor, and I wish I had more.
Outstanding Michael!!!

A lovely little turning Michael! I too like the rim, and it appears to be flat. Jimmy Clewes says flat rims are a no-no. I totally disagree with him on this point.

Thanks Will! :) I don't usually add a sloping rim, but I was inspired by some of @Marc Banka bowl rims. I think it works well here--gives a pretty cool shadow line against the undercut.
