Cocobolo Burl Round Bottom Box

Time to reveal the world's rarest wood, Cocobolo Burl (Dalbergia retusa)! This piece cost a fortune, but it is more then worth the price, as the burl and figure is really off the charts. Turned in my classic round bottom shape with the double stepped, domed lid, this piece reminds me of a starry night sky. Turned, hollowed and finished with abrasive wax followed by melamine lacquer. Size is 1 7/8" diameter x 1 3/4" tall. The billet was 15" long so I was able to cut a few more pieces out of it to turn later! I am always on the lookout for really special woods, and this one did not disappoint!
