This would be an effort I'd be using my hockey helmet to complete......red flags all over this one! I see you tapered the walls to some thickness in the base.....this is about the only way to do something like this with any measure of safety. Thin wall always have some amount of refined look to it, but I doubt it would have held together without some real tricky supporting.
