Cherry Burl Bowls

A friend gave me some Cherry burls. I cored this one and got three bowls. Well one is probably closer to a plate than a bowl. It is 7” x 1 ¼” and could have been bigger if I had made less of a bowl shape before coring. The smallest one I was able to keep the bark on, it is 6 ½””x 2 ½”. The largest is 9 x 3 ½”. They all have a bit of dye on them and are finished with Danish oil. They were cored in the order shown, left to right.
The dye really brings out some character in those, James. If you hadn't mentioned the dye, I wouldn't have known. What brand did you use? My favorite is the one on the left.

Thanks Odie! I used Chestnut Spirit Stains, both thinned and mixed. The ones on the ends were sanded back after first dye then I applied a different color.

Thanks Tom! I have the Oneway coring knives. The center bowl was cored from the outside, leaving the one on the right. Sort of like parting it from the base, but with the coring knife.
