There is a glorious East Asian myth of magical red threads connecting people together, regardless of place, time or circumstance.
Inspired by our relationship with time that has been so challenged during the COVID-19 Pandemic, I’ve created “The Red Thread of Fate” - a vessel to symbolize how time ground to a halt, leaving an antithetical void in our isolation. From only the materials that already existed in my studio, this piece of wood and clock gears thickly embedded with crystals represents our journey’s stagnation and ultimate renewal.
Though this virus has severed the lives of many, my gears have ensnared and morphed the magical red threads into blood drops of life and connection while the crystals show growth returning slowly in new and beautiful ways.
