1902 Goncalo Alves

Completed 4/27/21, Goncalo Alves, 9 9/16" x 1 7/8", Cost of materials was $60.25, original turning block was 10" x 2" and was KD @ 14% MC. I decided to twice turn, so roughed bowl took about 5 months to lose 1.3 oz. Could have turned this one in one session, but since MC stabilization important to me, I decided to twice turn. Inward slanted wall to the rim. Sanded to 600gt, Danish Oil Natural, Beall 3-step buff. Stronghold chuck for roughing, waste block plus center screw chuck for final turning. Foot is turned using Oneway mega jaws on Stronghold chuck. Sold for $145.

Another excellent bowl Odie!! I have never heard of that wood but it has beautiful grain. Very well done my friend, indeed!

Very nice Odie! This wood kills me re: allergies when working with it (always dry), I wonder if it’s just me?

Hi Russ.......Are you wearing breathing filtration? It can happen with anyone I guess, because even though I am wearing my Resp-o-rator religiously, I had a bad reaction from Katalox a few years ago.

Odie,
This was back in the day! I have a stack of this wood that I avoid due to my reaction. My fear is the ambient dust that will escape my collection/ filtration systems. This wood really hits my lungs! I do use lung protection most of the time; being a segmenter, I need to run to the saw to cut one more piece; that’s where I mostly go wrong; the quick cut syndrome!!
