A Peek Inside

Heavily weathered white oak block 14x3.5x7
Six inch hemisphere bowl turned off center of block with no visible means of attachment to lathe. There are no screw holes, mortice, glue block or tenon.
Very nice work, Cliff. You didn't mention clamping such as Bowl Jaws, Jumbo Jaws, Cole Jaws, etc.

"No screw holes, mortise, glue block or tenon" sounds like a teaser to me, Bill! ;)

Now, assuming Cliff wanted us to guess how he did it.......Well.....If I wanted to do something like that, I'd remove two opposing jaws in a chuck, and use a spacer between the existing two jaws and the "heavily weathered" block of wood, so that there would be no jaw marks.

If that's how it's done, then I claim the prize! :D

This was a fun project. I ended up making a large plywood faceplate, used culls to protect, and chained the block to the face plate with stop blocks screwed all around. Lead weights were cast and strategically placed to dynamically balance the piece using an online program. I added a remote to the lathe and kept Newtons third law in mind... I thought I could post a pic here but no joy.

Well Clifton......That is truly a unique way of addressing the problems incurred by tackling such a project! :)
